Clean Drinking Water Needed in the Philippines

Clean water is something that we take for granted in America, but many urban areas of the Philippines lack access to drinkable water. Most households in the Manila area, even if they do have clean drinking water, do not have heated water. One area where we provided flood relief items last year, Batasan, is frequently subject to water rationing. Running water is available for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. Drinkable water had to be purchased. Many of us in the West cannot imagine living in such conditions, but for many in the Philippines, this is a daily reality.

The Department of Health (DOH) warns of an impending water crisis and reminds Filipinos about the importance of clean drinking water.

Baguio City (1 April) — The Department of Health (DOH) is reminding the public to make sure that their drinking water is safe in the face of an impending water crisis, and in observance of the “Clean Water & Energy Week”.

March 22-28 is declared “Clean Water & Energy Week for a Healthy World” through Presidential Proclamation No. 23 issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in support of the United Nations Declaration marking March 22 as “World Day for Water”. Read the rest of the story…
