My wife and I traveled to the Philippines (on our own dollar!) in September immediately following the second annual Society Jam benefit concert. The concert went well and raised over $1,000 for PAS.

In the Philippines, we managed the thrift store that my brother Steve and his wife Katy started while they were working for PAS earlier this year. The thrift store benefits the working poor by giving them quality clothing and children’s books for a fraction of what they’d pay elsewhere. It also helps us cover overhead expenses like utilities so that donations can go straight to feeding and caring for the poor. My wife and I were fortunate enough to be able to serve at our mobile soup kitchen during our visit. (I’ll post some pictures soon.)

I’m excited to announce that Philippine Aid Society will be expanding our partnership with the outreach ministry of the University of Pampanga in San Fernando. With their administrative structure and volunteer base, we will be able to help fund many new programs to help the poor and expand our service area.   • The Sun Drop Monster Truck will be on display from 3pm
  • Live Music including the 2010 Cabarrus County beauty queens
  • Authentic Filipino cuisine
  • A Filipino stick fighting demonstration
  • Raffle with Windows 7 laptop
  • Silent auction with several great items including a 6 night South African Safari
  • Bounce house for kids
  • Cornhole tournament
  • A karaoke contest

Proceeds will benefit us and the Renew Foundation. Renew Foundation is a wonderful organization that restores and empowers women and children in the Philippines who have been victims of sex trafficking. Jasmine, the donor, is not accepting any gifts and is instead asking her guests to donate to the charitable causes she has selected.

Artist Arnold G is gathering multi-talented performers to raise funds for the flood ravaged Philippines. Los Angeles performers will gather in Hollywood, October 19th, 2009 to sing and raise much needed funds for the victims of the devastating floods that took over 450 lives in the Philippines last month. In association with “Philippine Aid Society”, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the artists will gather at Rage on Santa Monica Boulevard (West Hollywood) Monday evening for a fund-raiser event organized by Arnold G (of A&G records). Performers include: Arnold G, Lotonius Earl, Jezda, Kris Searle, Jael Gadsden, DeLon, Fawn, Asha Puthli, Stuart Guest and other special performances.

Donations of clothing and food will be accepted on location, as well as at: Manila Forwarder: 4323 Eagle Rock Blvd, Unit 313, Los Angeles, CA 90041 telephone: (323) 478-1599. Cash donations are being encouraged and will be managed directly Tim Troutman, Executive Director of the Philippine Aid Society, with offices in the United States (North Carolina) and also in the Philippines (Kamuning, Quezon City). The goal is to raise awareness and funds to help those in dire need with clothing, food, and other basic necessities. The event host is Rana Davis, popular long time hostess and emcee in Southern California.

Red carpet arrivals are slated for 8:30PM and the event will begin at 9:00PM
